about kalikamurti

Kalikamurti was born in Sydney, and moved to Melbourne with her parents at primary school age. She has currently been living in Alice Springs for nearly 13 years.

It is now over 27 years since Kalikamurti was introduced to yoga. Luckily for her it has become an integral part of her life. Over the years she has practised Gita Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Iyengar Yoga.

In 1992 she trained as a Satyananda Yoga Teacher, upgrading her skills to the new accreditation, she has studied Vibrational Breath therapy with Sri Bala Ratnam as a modality and in 2005 finished a four and half year diploma course in Dru Yoga Teaching, her second yoga teaching diploma.

As a counsellor Kalikamurti initially completed a degree of Social Work in 1984. After working as an administrator in tertiary education she then decided to branch out and work for herself and initiated a counselling and consultancy service called Frameworks Women’s Learning and Healing. From 1986 to 1992 she worked as a counsellor in private practice and worked as an independent facilitator and in training and development. During this period she studied feminist counselling and attended short courses in studying Neural Linguistic Programming and Psychodrama.

Since arriving in Alice Springs Kalikamurti has initiated her own school of yoga now called Beyond Breathing Space. She is currently studying Choice theory, Reality Therapy and Lead Management with the William Glasser Institute Australia.

Kalikamurti is a sanyasan in the Satyananda tradition, meaning that she has dedicated her life to spiritual growth and to be of benefit and service to the enhancement of life wherever possible.

Kali is an Indian deity meaning 'destroyer of illusion’; Kalikamurti therefore means symbol of change. In her life and work she seeks to assist people to destroy the illusions that hold them back and to assist in the creation of sustainable frameworks for change. Skills and tools that enable people, groups and organisations to be the best of who they can be in a positive sense and assisting them to feel able to contribute to the world in a loving, positive and peaceful way.
